TGIF

Friday, September 29th, 2006

Ah lovely Friday, how I miss you when you’re gone.

I am listening to the random shit that comes up on my ipod (right now “Folsom Prison Blues” by Johnny Cash) and wishing I had one of those wireless remotes so I wouldn’t have to get up and walk three steps to change the song. That, my friends, is the ultimate in laziness.

I am waiting for my friend O. to show up so we can go for beer. Oh, the exciting life I lead.

So after spilling shit on my laptop and frying my motherboard, I ended having to purchase a new one unexpectedly. That was one fucking expensive drink, I gotta say. But in the end it would have been far more expensive to get the old one fixed that buy a new one. And hey, the new one is better. 120 GB hard drive (vs) 80, 1GB memory (vs probably 512, if that), for 899, so that’s not bad. That should do me quite well for some time, actually, as the one that was in the shop was only one year old and still performing well. Usually at that point the old desktop would be sloooooow and annoying and half full already.

Hopefully this means I won’t have to worry about any tech purchases for a few years.

Had a fairly boring Saturday, which seems like it’s going to be followed by a fairly boring Sunday of cleaning my apartment. Oh the excitement of life, I can barely stand it.

This one was a book club pick, to be read and then when we got together we watched the movie. The book is a 700+ page meh fest. It’s not bad, perse, but it’s not good either. And frankly it’s supposed to be all suspenseful, but really isn’t because you know who killed Tess straight off. It’s no big shock at all. I really just didn’t care about any of the characters, and actively hated others. But it was readable and passed decent time while I was trapped in a boring hotel in the middle of nowhere Missussauga for a week.

The movie was even worse only because of the fact that I had just read the book so any tiny wee bit of suspense and thrill that might have been in the movie was obliterated. It was apparently nominated for Oscars, but I really have no idea why. The movie did, however, redeem itself and the book with it’s ending – an original bit that never happened in the book. So ya for that.
